How Bookblend handles your data.
Bookblend uses your quiz responses and club activity to make reading portraits, recommendations, ballots, and votes work. We try to collect only what the product needs, and we do not sell personal information or use third-party advertising trackers.
Effective date: April 27, 2026. Bookblend is in MVP/beta, so this policy will evolve as the product does.
What We Collect
Depending on how you use Bookblend, we may collect:
- Your name and email address, so we can identify your reading portrait, restore access with a one-time sign-in link, and connect you to your clubs.
- Your quiz ratings for the books shown in the taste quiz.
- Your derived taste profile: pace, prose, mood, focus, emotional intensity, depth, and genre affinity signals.
- Club information, including club name, invite code, members, recommendations, ballots, votes, winner history, saved books, and post-book feedback.
- Support messages you send through Get help, including your message, optional contact details, page URL, and browser/device information that helps diagnose bugs.
- Basic technical logs from our hosting and database providers, such as request timing, errors, and IP-derived security signals.
- Runtime error reports, such as page path, browser/device information, request status and timing, and short technical error messages or stacks when they are available. These reports are designed for debugging and should not include quiz answers, support-message bodies, emails, tokens, or passwords.
- Local browser storage, such as your member ID, last club ID, and recently loaded recommendations, so you can return to where you left off.
What We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect passwords.
- We do not collect payment card information.
- We do not collect precise location data.
- We do not import your full reading history unless a future import feature asks you to provide it.
- We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Create individual and group reading portraits.
- Generate and score book recommendations for your club.
- Run club workflows such as invites, ballots, ranked-choice voting, winner reveal, saved books, and feedback.
- Send one-time sign-in links and support replies when needed.
- Fix bugs, monitor reliability, and understand whether the product is working for beta users.
- Improve Bookblend using aggregated or de-identified patterns where practical.
What Your Club Can See
Club members may see your name, initials or labels in the club reading portrait, whether you have joined or voted, and shared club-level artifacts such as ballots, winners, recommendations, and feedback summaries. Bookblend is designed so raw individual quiz ratings are not shown to other club members in normal club views.
Service Providers
Bookblend uses a small number of providers to run the app:
- Render for hosting.
- Neon PostgreSQL for the database.
- Resend for one-time sign-in and support email.
- OpenAI for recommendation generation and book taste estimation. Recommendation requests may include club name, member first names, book details, and taste-profile context; they should not include email addresses.
- Open Library for book search, metadata, and covers.
When you click external book links, you leave Bookblend and the destination site handles your activity under its own privacy policy.
Sharing Portraits And Invite Links
If you share a reading portrait or invite link, people who receive it may see the club name, portrait image, and invite URL. Anyone with a valid invite link can take the quiz and join that club, so share it with the people you actually want in the club.
Your Choices
- You can ask for a copy, correction, or deletion of your Bookblend data through Get help.
- You can clear local Bookblend data from your browser storage, but that does not delete server-side club or quiz data.
- You can use a one-time email link to get back to your clubs without a password.
Retention And Security
We keep personal information as long as it is needed to run Bookblend, support clubs, debug issues, and maintain records that make the club workflow work. One-time sign-in links expire and can be used only once. We use reasonable safeguards, but no internet service can promise perfect security.
Children
Bookblend is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us through Get help.
Changes
As Bookblend grows, this policy may change. When it does, we will update the effective date and keep the policy available from the app.
